Two youths were killed and three others were injured as a nor'wester with thunderbolts lashed the capital last evening.

The dead were identified as Rajib and Farid, employees of a payphone shop at a kitchen market in Malibagh Chowdhury Para.

Following a flash of lightening and a deafening roar of thunder, the roof of the tin-built shop collapsed on them around 8:15pm injuring them severally, witnesses said.

They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared them dead.

During the same storm, the boundary wall of a mosque at Rajarbagh collapsed on a tin-built house injuring three people. The injured were five-year-old Monir, Alauddin, 30, and Mokhles, 25. They were having treatment at the DMCH last night.
