Cop, govt staff among 10 doped, robbed


At least 10, including a policeman and a government employee, fell victim to robbery by drugging and hospitalised in the capital yesterday.

Constable Shahadat Hossain, 26, of Rajarbagh Police Lines was found unconscious at Sayedabad Bus Terminal around noon. He was rushed to the police hospital in Rajarbagh and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The cash he was carrying was allegedly missing when he was discovered lying unconscious.

Ashrafuddin, 26, was sedated at the Zia International Airport bus stop as he was waiting for a bus to go to his home in Mymensingh. He had returned to Bangladesh from Dubai around noon.

"Some people made me have tea as soon as I reached the bus stop. After regaining consciousness, I found foreign currency worth Tk 30,000, a cellphone and my passport missing," Ashraf told The Daily Star at DMCH.

In another incident robbers tranquillised Alamgir Hossain Sumon, 32, a computer engineer, and took Tk 25,000 and his cellphone in a bus on its way to Elephant Road from Banani around 11:00am.

Robbers also sedated Humayun Kabir, 30, at Gulistan, Abdul Malek, 50, an employee of Kamalapur Inland Container Depot, at Mohakhali, Ilias Hossain, 28, an employee of Sonali Bank, at Paltan and Shaheen, 24, at Sayedabad Bus Terminal and took their money, cellphones and other valuables.

All the seven victims and three other unidentified victims of drugging were admitted to DMCH.
