Jamalpur BNP leader sued in cheating case

A cheating case has been filed against a former convener of Jamalpur district BNP and former deputy minister for health Sirajul Haque.

Jahanara Akter of Station Road in Jamalpur town filed the case with Jamalpur Police Station on Wednesday, sources said.

Other accused in the case is Abdullah-al-Fuad Redowan, a teacher of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman College in Jamalpur and brother-in-law of Haque.

Police raided the houses of both Haque and Redowan in the town two times but did not find them.

According to the case, Haque took Tk 1,60,000 from Jahanara in two installments in 2005 giving her a false assurance that she will be appointed to the post of lecturer in logic at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman College.

Haque was the president of the managing committee of the college.

Jahanara could not get the job though she had secured the first position in the written test.

The post went to the wife of Haque's younger brother through irregularities.

When contacted, Firoz Khan, officer-in-charge of Jamalpur Police Station, confirmed the filing of the case and subsequent police raids.
