BDR-BSF meet agrees to settle disputes thru' dialogue

A battalion-level flag meeting between the BDR and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) was held at no man's land near Ghojadanga in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, opposite Bhomra land port in Sadar upazila yesterday.

The meeting ended with an agreement that the border guards of both the countries would work sincerely to maintain peace in the bordering areas and settle any disputes through dialogue.

Both the sides also agreed to curb smuggling of drugs and firearms and prevent trespass and any move to construct any structures 150 yards inside the border on both sides.

At the meeting, the BDR expressed concern over the torture and killing of Bangladeshi villagers by BSF, sources said.

The BSF assured the BDR that their border guards would avoid trespassing and killing or torturing innocent Bangladeshi villagers.

Col. Asif Abdur Rouf, commanding officer 41 Rifles Battalion, led the nine-member BDR team while Asim Vias, commanding officer of 191 BSF Battalion, led the 11-member BSF team.
