Security of NGOs discussed


Rajshahi Metropolitan Police yesterday discussed the issue of security with the local representatives of different non-government organisations (NGOs) at DIG's conference room here.

Top police officials asked the NGO representatives to remain on high alert and enquired about their own security measures.

They urged the NGO leaders to inform police about militant activities if any at grass-roots level.

Acting RMP Commissioner Abul Kasem presided over the meeting. Additional DIG Mahbub Mahsin, SP Rajshahi Didar Ahmed, Deputy Police Commissioner (West) Mahbubur Rahman, senior RMP officials and Officers-in-Charge of different police stations of the district attended the meeting.

NGO leaders at the meeting expressed deep concern at the recent serial blasts at railway stations and threat to NGOs by Jadid Al-Queda.

They urged the police to maintain close contact with NGO activists and discussed issues of fundamentalism, militancy, JMB activities and their possible targets.

Police assured NGO men of a full cooperation.

A work plan was chalked out aiming at strengthening security of the NGOs at the meeting.

A correspondent from Thakurgaon adds: The high officials of Thakurgaon yesterday exchanged views with the local NGO representatives on the issue of their workers' security at Thakurgaon Police Lines In-service Institute.

A K M Shahidul Haque, Divisional Inspector General of Police (DIG), was present as chief guest. Police Super Md Masud Ul Hasan presided over the meeting. Safayat Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon, Shahid Uz Zaman, executive director of ESDO and Rabiul Azam, director of MKP addressed the discussion.
