District town based theatre festival at Shilpakala

To encourage district town based theatre practitioners, Department of Theatre and Film of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has arranged a weeklong theatre festival at the National Theatre Stage. Begun on May 11, theatre troupes from Chandpur, Rangpur, Kurigram, Barguna, Khagrachhori, Bandarban and Moulvibazar are participating at the festival.Co-ordinator of the festival Golam Sarwar, the deputy director of Department of Theatre and Film, said, "The aim of the festival is to boost the promising troupes from district levels. The playwrights and directors of the theatre performances are locals. The academy sent trainers only to giude them." Theatre troupes representing three ethnic minority groups-- Chakma, Marma and Monipuri-- will also stage their distinctive ritual and culture based performances in the festival.
