Body formed for appointment of VC, pro-VC

The government has formed a seven-member committee, headed by the education secretary, for appointment to the posts of vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor and treasurer of the public universities. Other members of the committee are Prof Wahiduddin Mahmud, Dr Farash Uddin, Prof Syed Manzurul Islam, representative of the University Grants Commission, joint secretary and deputy secretary of the education ministry, said a press release yesterday. The committee will collect the updated list of senior professors of the universities and select from them the qualified and honest candidates to fill up the vacancies. However, the appointment of vice-chancellors of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar and Chittagong universities will remain out of the purview of the committee, the press release added.
