A division bench of the High Court yesterday ordered inclusion of the Meghna Ghat Power plant corruption case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the cause list for hearing today. The HC bench passed the order after the prosecution lawyer Deputy Attorney General Abdur Rouf Miah placed the case before the court for hearing.Gulam Mostafa, a director of the now defunct anti-corruption bureau (Bac) had filed the case with Ramna police Station on December 11, 2001, accusing Sheikh Hasina and two others--former state minister Syed Abul Hussain and Prof Rafiqul Islam--of misappropriating Tk 17.89 crore in installing the power plant. Police submitted the charge sheet to the court on October 14, 2002 and the trial was initiated at a metropolitan special court on October 17, 2002. Hasina and other accused filed a petition with the High Court on December 2, 2002 for quashing the case. After hearing the petition, a high Court division bench issued a rule, asking the government to show cause why the prayer would not be considered. The court in its order also stayed the proceedings of the case until disposal of the rule.
