BSF kills 2

Two Bangladeshis were shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Lalmonirhat and Jessore districts yesterday.

The dead are Jobiul Islam, 25, son of Nurul Islam of Jalongi village under Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat, and Ismail Hossain of Shibdas village under Sharsha upazila of Jessore.

Our Lalmonirhat correspondent reported that the Indian border guards opened fire on Jobiul while he was working on his cropland near pillar no 849 of Jalongi border under Patgram upazila in the morning. He died instantly.

Immediately after the incident, the BSF men took away the body.

The company commander of 19 Rifles Battalion protested the killing and sent a letter to the BSF authorities demanding return of the body. The BSF did not return the body as of 6:00pm yesterday.

In Jessore, a patrol team of Kurlia BSF camp opened fire on Ismail Hossain, 42, at Shalkona frontier early yesterday, killing him on the spot, according to our correspondent.

Sources said Ismail, son of Quader Sardar, was returning home along with some medicines he purchased from India.

The Indian border guards took away the body. Col Badrul Huda of 22 Rifles Battalion confirmed the incident.

BDR protested the killing and asked its Indian counterpart to hold a flag meeting.
