Rejoinder, our reply
Islami Chhatra Shibir sent a rejoinder to a The Daily Star report headlined "Shibir's Secret Training of DU Students" published on May 12, 2007. In the rejoinder it also attached a statement allegedly signed by Md Abrar Ahmed's elder brother and sister. The statement claimed that Abrar was slightly mentally disturbed. They also claimed that he was forced to make the statement against Shibir. Our Reply: Md Abrar Ahmed came to The Daily Star office spontaneously and made a statement. He submitted a similar statement to the provost of Szt Zahurul Huq Hall. While Abrar was writing that statement, his alleged elder sister, one of the signatories to the statement attached to the rejoinder, Provost of Zahurul Huq Hall Prof Zahidul Islam, one of the dormitory's House Tutors AKM Saiful Islam, Officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station Shahidul Islam were present. Abrar himself wrote the statement and submitted it to the provost of his dormitory. We have information that while Abrar was writing his statement his alleged sister was trying to stop him from doing so, but failed. In front of police personnel, provost and house tutor of his dormitory and his sister, what forced him to write such a statement? To justify their claim, Muhammmad Fazlul Huq Palash and Arju Islam, Abrar's alleged brother and sister, did not submit any documents or any physician's opinion. In the same statement, they admitted that they were involved with the activities of Shibir. Should we then assume that his alleged brother and sister were trying to keep the face of their organisation at the cost of their brother's non-extremist creed?
