Children celebrate Mother's Day

They bloomed like flowers as it was the day to express their love and affection for their mother. Though delayed due to examination, little artists of Central Kachi-Kanchar Mela celebrated the Mother's Day yesterday by singing, dancing and painting.

Several hundred children clad in traditional and colourful dresses gathered on Mela premises in the city in the early morning where they posed for photographs and filled the air with laughter.

"Each of you is a piece of rose. You are the most beautiful flower. Whenever I look at this beautiful flower, it becomes more beautiful," said Unni Lovlid, a prominent folk singer of Norway who attended the function as special guest. She impressed the twittering little-aged audience with a song in her mother tongue.

"My mother is my art, my life and my feelings, and she is the best friend in my life," said Shamma, a member of Kachi-Kancha, in her speech on Mother's Day.

With 14 children, boys in white pyjama and panjabi while girls in white frock, rendering the song titled "Satya Shantir Gan Geye jai..." curtain of the function rose at 10:30am. The dance performed in tune with "Amra Sobai Raja..." by the children aged between 6 to 10 dressed in red sari fascinated the audience at the mid of the programme.

Kachi-Kancha Director Khandakar Ibrahim Khaled, Poet Ruby Rahman, and First Secretary of Norway in Dhaka Ms Engreed Hough spoke in the discussion. Tuntuni, a member of Kachi-Kancha, presided over the session.
