Yarn worth Tk 10 lakh seized in N'ganj, 3 held

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) seized 100 cartons of yarn worth around Tk 10 lakh from two godowns in the district town and arrested three people in this connection on Thursday.

Rab sources said an organised group of frauds through fake bank letter of credit (LC) and pay order took the delivery of the yarn from an export-oriented factory named Alhaj Karim Textile Mills Ltd at Dhamrai on May 16.

After examining, the factory authorities came to know that the LC and pay order were fake, they said.

A case was filed with Dhamrai Police Station in this regard.

Tipped off, a team of Rab-11 conducted raid at Tanbazar area at midnight and seized 60 cartons from a godown at Habib Complex and another 40 cartons from a godown of Haji Nasir at Bangabandhu Road and arrested Lokman Hossain, Jamal and Mosharraf.

Other people of the godowns managed to flee.

Some yarn traders and brokers of Tanbazar are involved in selling stolen yarn, sources said.
