Brand management?


Brand' is an important concept in business and in these days of acute competition amidst globalisation, multinational companies (MNCs) as well as transnational companies (TNCs) make great effort in managing respective brands. However, the alarming trend of sponsoring news programmes in private TV channels or even countrywide observance of 'Police Week' and similar events does not match the spirit of good governance.

There may arise questions regarding the neutrality and credibility of the institutions, be it a news agency or public office. What if someday a company financially sponsors cultural or like activities of auditors or tax officers? What if someday a multinational corporate body sponsors a session of the National Assembly or Victory Day march past by the armed forces?

It is time we thought of the consequence of reckless and rampant marketing strategies. For the sake of fair play of all the entities, there should be practices guided by equitable gain as well as ethics.
