Dark days again?
Mohammed Rashed, On e-mail
For a short time we thought we were going to have a change in our politics. At least we were going to see new faces in politics - that itself would have revived democracy in a greater degree. Unfortunately, the former prime ministers are coming back to the picture - ironically holding each other's hand. That is not good news for our freedom and democracy. Not only are they proven unsuccessful as leaders, they themselves are so power hungry that the only time they would support each other is when they are both in trouble. Who would have imagined that these two ladies would ever support each other? Nevertheless, there are some blind supporters of them living in the country. What will it take these blind supporters to realise that the above leaders openly allowed goons and corrupt people in their parties and if they come back to power, we will be back to the old days? I hope the CTG will take a tough stance against their return as leaders by holding them accountable for the corruption during their regime. I hope the media will also play a role in bringing changes to our country. There are honest and hard working politicians in both the parties. The media should encourage them to step in as leaders and make them popular to the common people. Please do not push us back to the dark days! Finally, I would request Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina to voluntarily step down and let the parties flourish with new leaderships and ideas. We do not need your leadership anymore!
