Story Of Yet Another Playground!

The T&T playground on Manik Mia Avenue still remains inaccessible to children and youngsters of Indira Road and Farmgate as the Bangladesh National Weavers Association (BNWA) left the playground in a dilapidated state after concluding a month-long fair over 30 days ago.

To the dismay of residents, the Ministry Of Housing and Public Works rented out the playground to the BNWA in March to set up over 100 stalls to promote traditional weavers of the country. Hundreds of children and youngsters in the congested Indira Road, Farm Gate and Nakhalpara use the playground everyday.

"They have no right to leave behind hundreds of holes on the ground and also piles of bricks to turn the playground inaccessible," said Farhana Rahman of Indira Road, who accompanies her children every day. "This shows how disrespectful these people are to our children," she said.

Officials at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works declined to accept responsibility of cleaning up and repairing the playground.

"Those who took the rent they should clean the playground," said an engineer of the Public Works Department requesting anonymity.

Despite repeated attempts officials of the BNWA could not be reached over phone.
