2 Jubo League top leaders detained in Agartala
Staff Correspondent
Jubo League Chairman Jahangir Kabir Nanak and General Secretary Mirza Azam, also an ex-lawmaker, were detained at Sonamura in Agartala of the Indian state of Tripura Monday, said sources from across the border.Officially, their names have not yet been disclosed. Both the leaders were travelling incognito--one as Mizanur Rahman and the other as Milton Rahman, reports our Delhi correspondent. The top brass of Jubo League, Awami League's youth front, went into hiding after the military-backed caretaker government had begun cracking down on graft suspects including the big names in politics and business. Tripurainfo.com, a news website of the north-eastern Indian state, quoting sources reported that the detention has jolted the Indian intelligence services. The external affairs ministry was handling the matter now in view of its sensational nature. It also reported that Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee was briefed about the developments. The two leaders were taken to an undisclosed location.
