Staff correspondent
Shishu Bikash Network, a team of physicians, psychologists, therapists, social workers and special educators, yesterday called on the government to bring back Valerie A Taylor, founder of the Centre for Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), to her position as co-ordinator of the centre. The CRP board of trustees recently removed Taylor from her position as the co-ordinator. In a joint statement, the Shishu Bikash Network also urged the government to take necessary steps to save the CRP from ruin. It said the CRP is a national voluntary organisation committed to improving the quality of life of disabled people and working to ensure their equal rights and integration into society. Members of the network also said Valerie Taylor has given meaningful lives back to hundreds of persons with spinal injuries and disabilities, with especial emphasis on the socio-economic empowerment and rehabilitation of women within their communities. Shishu Bikash Network Chairperson Dr Naila Zaman Khan, Convenor Shamim Ferdous and Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation General Secretary Prof Sultana S Zaman issued the statement.
