Kalidas Karmakar receives French grant
Celebrated artist Kalidas Karmakar has been awarded a special grant from the French government, which will allow him to learn and research on stained glass art at the famous atelier (studio) Maison du Vitrail Andrieux in Paris for two months (June and July this year), says a press release. This is for the first time a Bangladeshi artist has been offered this opportunity. Earlier, Kalidas obtained another grant (in 1981) to learn the French coloured technique gravure at the famous Atelier 17 in Paris. After moving back, Karmakar introduced the technique to young Bangladeshi artists. Kalidas plans to introduce the technique of stained glass to young artistes in the country upon his return.
