Bogra ex-BNP MP sued for extortion

Former BNP lawmaker from Bogra-3 constituency Abdul Momin Talukder and 15 others were sued for extorting Tk 6 lakh from a brick kiln owner and forcing him to shut down the business.

Owner of the brick kiln Ashraf Ali Kobiraj of Dhupchachia upazila filed the case with Bogra zone-B court.

The accused also include Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Tofail Hossain Liton, Bogra deputy commissioner's employee Qaiyum Hossain and Momin's cousin and personal assistant Mohammad Motaleb.

In his statement the complainant said Momin demanded Tk 10 lakh as toll from him through Liton in 2001. The former lawmaker got angered with him and started threatening him as he refused to provide the money. Later, Momin's men attacked the brick kiln and ransacked it forcing him to shut down the business.

Ashraf said on December 18, 2001 he gave them Tk 5 lakh and Tk 1 lakh more later as tolls.

Following filing of the case the court ordered Dhupchachia Police Station to take necessary measures in this regard.
