Srijon commemorates National Poet's birth anniversary

Srijon, a cultural organisation promoting Bengali songs of yesteryears, arranged their 58th monthly programme at Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium, National Museum on May 29. The event marked the 108th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam. The musical soiree featured noted and upcoming artistes of the country.

"We should try to follow Nazrul's philosophy of loving our fellow men and speaking up for the oppressed," said renowned Nazrul singer Khairul Anam Shakil, chief guest at the programme.

Shakil performed the popular Nazrul song Mor priya hobey esho rani. A duet with Kolpona Anam -- Mora aar Jonomey -- was next.

Kolpona Anam and Rumana Islam, special guests at the programme, rendered Amar jabar shomoy holo and Mor prothomo moner mukul respectively, among other songs. Mahidul Islam recited excerpts from Nazrul's Obhibadon. Dipti Oroni Choudhury, a member of Srijon, performed Gorojey gombhir gogoney.

Among others, Kaikobad Azad, Zakir Hossain Tapan, Mollika Anwar, Tanjila Ruma, Ahmed Newaz and Champa Banik rendered songs at the event. The programme was directed and arranged by Nurul Islam Polash. Sangita was the anchor of the programme.
