President undergoes cataract surgery


President Iajuddin Ahmed underwent a successful cataract surgery on his right eye at Birdem Hospital yesterday, according to a Bangabhaban statement.

"A successful phaco emalcification cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation on the right eye of the president was carried out at the facility this morning," the statement said.

A surgical team headed by Prof Dr Sheikh MA Mannaf carried out the 25-minute operation ending at 10:40 am. The President took rest up to 5:00 pm at the hospital before returning to Bangabhaban.

Other members of the team were Prof AH Syedur Rahman, Dr Nazrul Islam, Dr Ziaul Ahsan, Dr Abdur Rakib Tusher, Dr Sharmina Aluddin, Dr Siddiqur Rahman, Dr Sazzad Hossain, Dr Munira Sultana and nursing supervisor Romoni Rozario.

A medical board, comprising Prof Hazera Mahatab, Major General (retd) Dr Ziauddin Ahmed, Prof Mohammad Omar Farruk, Prof AKM Nurunnabi Chowdhury, Prof AKM Morshed, Brig Gen Mohammad Sheikh Bahar Hossain, Dr Khaja Naimuddin, Dr MM Zaharul Alam Khan and Dr Basudev Shaha, were along with the surgical team.

Health Adviser Major General (retd) Dr ASM Matiur Rahman visited Iajuddin Ahmed at Birdem after the surgery.
