Workshop on environment for teens held


Wildlife Trust of Bangladesh (WTB) organised a daylong workshop titled 'Training programme for adult advisers for Teens for Planet Earth in Bangladesh' was held at COSMOS Centre (WTB conference room) in the city yesterday.

Teens for Planet Earth (TPE) is an international initiative of the Wildlife Conservation Society, New York. The Bronx Zoo, New York, has adapted and disseminated the successful programme to involve both girls and boys from around the world in environmental service learning projects.

WTB Chairman Enayetullah Khan inaugurated the workshop while the inaugural session was presided over by WTB Vice-Chairman Prof Harunur Rashid.

WTB Chief Executive Prof Md Anwarul Islam and Programme Officer and Coordinator of Teens for Planet Earth Gawsia Wahidunnesa Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion.

About 35 teachers, foresters and zoo activists from different organisations participated in the workshop.

At the end of the programme, everyone pledged to work for the conservation of natural resources by forming groups with the teens.

The Wildlife Trust will arrange a "Teen Fair" with the teenagers with successful environment related projects. Some of these teens will have an opportunity to participate in the 'World Summit for Teens' to be held sometime next year.

Wildlife Trust of Bangladesh (WTB) took this International Conservation Education Initiative in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society.
