AL leader held in Rajshahi


Police arrested an Awami League leader from Rajshahi city yesterday for his alleged involvement in drug and arms trade.

Police said they raided the rented residence of Boalia upazila Awami League president Sheikh Arman Ali, 42, at Malda Colony in the evening are arrested him.

He was caught when he was trying to flee, they said.

The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Saiful Islam.

Police said Arman was on the 'list of criminals' with Boalia police station and accused in eight cases.

Among the cases, three are for terrorism; two filed under Public Safety Act, two under Speedy Trial Act and one under the Explosives Act.

Besides, many general diaries were filed against Arman for alleged extortion and damaging government property, police said.
