Extortion cases filed against MAH Selim

A contractor last night filed two extortion cases against detained former BNP lawmaker from Bagerhat MAH Selim with Gulshan Police Station.The complainant, Zahirul Islam Faruq of Panthapath, in the First Information Report (FIR) mentioned that Selim demanded Tk 50 lakh and Tk 12 lakh for letting him work on two Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) projects, for which Zahirul had won work orders. The complainant said he had no option but to give in to the then lawmaker's mounting pressure. The complainant also said he paid Tk 10 lakh with a cheque in 2003 while the rest of the money was paid on different dates later on.
