Journalist Zahirul Haq no more

Noted journalist and former director general of external publicity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zahirul Haq died of heart attack in Dhaka yesterday. He was 62. Zahirul, a former secretary general of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), worked for different newspapers. He was the chief reporter of the now- defunct national daily Dainik Bangla. Family sources said Zahirul suffered a massive heart attack at about 12:30pm. He was rushed to Ibn Sina Hospital at Dhanmondi where the doctors declared him dead. His namaj-e-janaza was held after Asr prayers at Mosque-e-Noor at Malibagh and after Magrib prayers at the National Press Club before burial at Shjahanpur graveyard. Zahirul Haq left behind one daughter, one son, and a host of friends and admirers to mourn his death.
