Protect arable land, water bodies
Speakers tell seminar

Bangladesh should protect its arable land and water bodies from the adverse affect of globalisation, said Justice Ghulam Rabbani at a seminar yesterday.

The seminar on 'Reform in agriculture, land and water bodies to achieve Millennium Development Goals' organised by Land Rights Day Observance Committee was held at LGED auditorium in the city.

Speaking as the chief guest, Justice Rabbani said Bangladesh should return to agriculture to face the unequal competition in the age of globalisation.

Former adviser to the caretaker government Dhiraj Kumar Nath said khas land should be distributed among the poor.

Only micro-credit is not enough to eradicate poverty from the country, rather the right of poor people on the national resources should be established, said General Secretary of Economic Association of Bangladesh Dr Kazi Kholiquzzaman.

Convener of the Observance Committee Khushi Kabir chaired the programme while Member Secretary Md Abdul Kader, Barrister Raja Debashish Roy and Director of Samata Sohel Ibn Ali also spoke.
