Be vocal against any wrongdoing of police
IGP urges people

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Noor Mohammad yesterday sought cooperation of common people in developing good policing and called upon them to keep vigil on police activities.

"Protest instantly or inform us if you see any policeman doing anomalies or something unfair... Speak up loudly against anything bad of police...Today's problem is created for keeping mum over years," he added.

"Corrupt policemen, whatever position he may hold, will lose his job and land in jail. Such elements cannot save themselves from punishment by any amount of lobbying," assured the IGP while addressing a meeting with civil society members at Rajshahi DIG's conference room.

"We want to come out of hundred-year-old colonial image by changing existing concept of policing and it is not possible without close co-operation of people," he said, adding, "We can not bring any revolutionary change, we can keep our process on to turn police into a symbol of reliability."

The IGP also addressed a gathering of policemen at Rajshahi police line.

He asked them to change their behaviour and become friendly with people.

" From now on we will show zero tolerance to any misbehaviour and corruption," he warned.

The IGP also asked policemen not to harass anyone intentionally, and take care of all citizens as their family members.

"Those days are gone and now there is none to control police from behind. This is the high time to be relieved of bad image, we have no other alternative to survive," ha added.

Noor Mohammad asked them to render service in an efficient, professional and honest manner so that the negative perception about police is changed.

He informed them that a package proposal for upgrading their salaries and developing logistic support is under consideration of the caretaker government.

Earlier in the morning, the IGP inaugurated an in-service police training centre and divisional CID's forensic laboratory inside the police line and addressed two separate meetings of Rajshahi Range Police and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).

Noor Mohammad came to Rajshahi on Saturday night and addressed superintendents of police from 16 districts of Rajshahi division at the DIG's conference room.

Rajshahi DIG AKM Shahidul Hoq, Director of Rapid Action Battalion Lt Col Shamsuzzaman Khan, RMP Commissioner Abul Kashem and Additional DIG CID Binoy Krishna Bala were present on the occasion.
