Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman attended the ceremony as chief guest, said an ISPR release.

The Air chief reviewed the smartly turned-out parade and took salute.

He also handed over awards, certificates and flying badges among the Flight Cadets.

Flight Cadet Wing Under Officer Faisal Ahmed was presented with the coveted "Sword of Honour" for his best all round performance. He also got Commandant's Trophy for best performance in general service training and Osmani Gold Medal for best performance in academic training.

Flight Cadet Sergeant Md Atik Hassan received Chief of Air Staff's Trophy for his best all round performance in 55 Flight Cadet Course (Ground Branch). Meanwhile, the number Two Squadron was adjudged the champion Squadron and was given Academy Colour.

Addressing the newly commissioned officers, Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman said a well disciplined defence forces is a symbol of national sovereignty.

At present nation's expectation to us is very high and so keeping today's promise in heart alive you should remain always prepared even for supreme sacrifice for the cause of the Motherland, he added.

He expressed his firm conviction that inspite of constraint of manpower and other limitations every BAF member would discharge his duty with patriotism, sincerity and honesty in future for the interest of nation.

He remembered with rich tributes the noble sacrifice of BAF members during the War of Liberation in 1971.

A total of 17 Flight Cadets including 4 Female Flight Cadets were commissioning this time.

General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division Major General M Rafiqul Islam, high civil and military officials, parents and guardians of the flight cadets were present on the occasion.
