Misappropriation of CI Sheets in Nilphamari
Bail prayers of ex-Jamaat MP, two other leaders rejected

The Special Judge's court in Rangpur yesterday rejected bail prayers of former Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Mizanur Rahman Choudhury, its Nilphamari district Ameer Azizul Islam and secretary Abdul Gani in a case for misappropriation of relief CI sheets.

The court fixed June 27 for the next hearing.

Joint forces recovered 118 pieces of CI sheets from Jaldhaka residence of Mizanur Rrahman, 18 pieces from the house of Jamaat activist Abdur Rahman and 19 pieces from Abdur Latif's house on February 17.

Joint forces arrested Abdur Rahman and Abdul Latif on the day.

Mizanur Rahman Choudhury surrendered to a magistrate court in Nilphamari on February 18 and prayed for bail. The court rejected his bail prayer and sent him to jail. Later he was shifted to Nagaon jail from where he was sent to Dhaka Central Jail.

Jaldhaka police lodged a corruption case against Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury and nine other Jamaat leaders and activists including its district Ameer Azizul Islam and secretary Abdul Gani for their alleged involvement in misappropriation of relief CI sheets.

Jamaat leaders Abdul Gani and Azizul Islam and activists Moshfiqur Rahman and Monsur Ali appeared before the Special Judge's Court in Rangpur yesterday and prayed for bail. The judge rejected the prayer and sent them to Rangpur Central Jail.

Police said the four Jamaat leaders and activists were hiding till they surrendered to court yesterday.

The rest of the accused are also hiding, police said.

Mizanur Rahman Choudhury is accused in eight corruption cases, lodged with Jaldhaka and Kishorganj police stations in Nilphamari district.

He was elected from Nilphamari-3 constituency in the last election.
