BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman's wife and mother-in-law visited him at the Dhaka Central Jail yesterday. Tarique's wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and her mother Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu reached the jail gate at around 4:45pm and met Tarique at the senior jail superintendent's room. They talked for some 25 minutes in presence of the Senior Jail Super Golam Hayder and an official of the Special Branch (SB) of police. Jail sources said they spent the time talking about family matters. Zubaida and her mother also enquired about Tarique's health. They handed him two books -- one a biography of Jawaharlal Nehru and the other a religion based one. The elder son of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, Tarique, is facing a number of criminal cases. Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddique told The Daily Star that Tarique was given division on June 12. He had been staying in jail as an ordinary prisoner since his arrest on March 7. Tarique's family was allowed to visit him only once a month earlier, but as he had got division, they can visit him twice a month from now on, Haider added.
