Hamim Group chief Azad owns Tk 29cr properties


Proprietor of Hamim Group AK Azad, one of the 21 corruption suspects and the publisher of daily Shamokal, yesterday submitted his statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) disclosing wealth worth over Tk 29 crore.

In the statement submitted to ACC Secretary Delwar Hossain through Hamim Group General Manager Golam Kibria, Azad stated that he has immovable property worth over Tk 8 crore while his wife's immovable property is worth about Tk 16 lakh.

Among the family's moveable property, Azad has an investment of about 8.82 crore in shares while his wife Saima Azad has about Tk 90.79 lakh.

Azad in the wealth statement showed Tk 12.4 crore against his other investments, bank balance and cash as well as money received from his wife.

Total wealth in Azad's name amounts to over Tk 29.32 crore while that of his wife worth over Tk 1.1 crore.

In the statement, Azad claimed that he and his wife have liability of Tk 9 crore and Tk 17 lakh respectively. So, net wealth possessed by him and his wife comes to about Tk 20.32 crore and Tk 93 lakh respectively.

Azad and 20 other corruption suspects, including Tarique Rahman, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Anwar Hossain Monju and Obaidul Karim, were asked by the ACC on May 29 to submit their wealth statements within seven working days.

But eight individuals, including Azad, did not comply with the ACC directive within the stipulated time. Rather, they applied for the extension of time limit and as per the ACC Rules 2007, they were given another seven working days to come up with their statements.
