B. League back today
Sports Reporter
The B.League will resume today in the city after an impromptu four-day break due to heavy monsoon rain.Mid-table Arambagh and Farashganj, scheduled to play on June 10 before the 14th week of the inaugural professional league was interrupted by persistent inclement weather, meet in the Dhaka derby at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Farashganj, who lost the first-leg match 2-0, have a chance to overtake their city rivals in the table if they win. A second win in the season against the riversiders, however, will bring Arambagh to fourth place. All eyes, meanwhile, would be on tomorrow's much talked about clash between Abahani and Mohammedan, the two local giants gearing up for the pole position. Sharing the lead along with Muktijoddha on 22 points, the two archrivals are separated by goal difference with Mohammedan having an edge. The sky-blues, however, have played a match less and will be boosted by their 1-0 first leg win. It was bad news though for Shafiqul Islam Manik's boys, who refused to train on Wednesday, just a couple of days ahead of a very crucial game, in demand of payment from the club officials. Manik, however, denied admitting it as a major problem. "It is an internal problem and these things happen. But we have trained today and everything looks okay," told the Mohammedan coach who reportedly left the camp in anger after the officials failed to convince the players. Manik will miss Emeka, the Nigerian striker who was sent off during their last game, a 1-1 draw with Muktijoddha but the black and whites would be able to field four foreigners if they choose to replace young Himel with Liberian goalkeeper Paul beside Nigerian trio Paul, Divine and Odafe. Abahani are likely to be without their best performer of the season, Argentine central defender Caporale, who has yet to confirm his return from Buenos Aires after the first leg. They signed two players from Cameroon during the mid-season transfer window but only Soleiman Nchohaut is certain to play as Obi Mikel John's international transfer clearance was unavailable. Provided the ITC is at hand by today, the Abahani management is interested to push both into action alongside Ghanaian forward Ibrahim in a bid to strengthen their attack. Sheikh Russel host Chittagong Mohammedan on Sunday while Muktijoddha will be up against a revamped Rahmatganj on the next day in the last match of the week.
