Challenge for Ashraful

Bangladesh cricket Board has taken a very brave decision by appointing young Mohammad Ashraful and Mashrafe Bin Mortoza as captain and vice captain respectably until this September for both versions of the game. Only time will tell whether this decision by BCB will yield any positive outcome for our cricket, but I must say this is a very timely and courageous decision made by BCB since our outgoing captain Habibul Bashar was no longer delivering what was expected of him. We desperately needed someone who is very talented, confident and capable of leading the team under tiring circumstances. Since Ashraful had previous experience of captaining Under-19 and A team etc, so I feel this is the right time to give him the chance of leading the national team.

The question to be asked here is whether Ashraful himself is ready to take up this new challenge. It's pleasing to know from news reports that Ashraful is ready to face the new challenge. But he must keep in mind that it's going to be very tough to lead an emerging team like Bangladesh. The job is not easy at all. Moreover, now is the time for Ashraful to prove that he can lead his side by example. As a captain, he has to score runs consistently, which he has failed to do in recent times, as a player in order to gain respect from his colleagues. And last but not the least--he has to speak

fluent English to face the media people!

We expect to rediscover our most talented batsman Mohammed Ashraful as a mature and sensible captain in the days to come. Wishing our new captain all the best, and I do believe that the beginning of this new Ashraful-Mashrafe era will bring glory for our cricket.
