11 Sundarbans forest officials asked to give wealth report

Eleven forest officials under the Sundarbans Division have been asked to submit their wealth statements to the Forest Ministry by June 20.

Conservator of Forest in Khulna M Mizanur Rahman Thursday received a fax message of the directive sent by the ministry.

The eleven forest officials are Conservator of Forest M Mizanur Rahman, DFO of Sundarbans Forest Division (West Zone) Mozaharul Islam, DFO of Sundarbans Forest Division (East Zone) SM Shahidullah, Assistant Conservator of Forest SM Shoaib Khan, Mihir Kumar Dey, Sazzad Hossain, Abul Kalam, Mahmudul Hasan, Ruhul Amin, Belayet Hossain and Amir Hossain.

There have been allegations for long that the forest officials working under the Sundarbans Forest Division amassed huge wealth through corruption and plundering the resources of the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest.

Our staff correspondent adds from Khuna: The Anti-Corruption Commission will interrogate in a week or two nine officials of Sundarbans Forest Division, as arrested chief conservator of forests Osman Gani mentioned their names as his accomplices in plundering huge forest resources.

The nine officials are Mizanur Rahman, Mozaharul Islam, SM Shahidullah, Sazzad Hossain, Abul Kalam, Mahmudul Hasan, Syed Mohammad Ullah, Md Yunus Ali, Abdul Jabbar and Sirajul Islam.
