Mohiuddin's extradition now at final stage

The foreign ministry yesterday said the extradition of Mohiuddin Ahmed, the condemned killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is now at the final stage as a US court rejected his appeal for asylum.

" Unless any new legal complication arises, his return is now final after the US court's decision," Acting Foreign Secretary Touhid Hossain told newsmen.

He said the US Homeland Security men are expected to escort Mohiuddin to Dhaka, but the exact date of his arrival is yet to be confirmed.

Earlier, a federal judge in California had stayed for seven days the hearing on the extradition of the former army officer involved in the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members on August 15, 1975.
