'Cancel layoffs at Khulna Jute Mill'

Leaders of Sramik Nirapatta Forum (SNF), a platform of 17 workers' organisations, demanded that the government cancel layoffs at Khulna Jute Mill and withdraw cases against the workers.The SNF sent a letter signed by its Convener Dr Hamida Hossain to Jute and Textile Adviser Geetiara Safia Chowdhury yesterday to press the demands, says a press release. In the letter, SNF leaders mentioned their five-point demand, including withdrawal of termination order on 950 workers and immediate payment of their salaries. Police filed cases against several thousand labour leaders and workers of the mill as they protested the layoffs, the press release added.
