Ex-woman MP sued in Kushtia


Forest Department on Thursday sued the wife of former BNP lawmaker Sahidul Islam for keeping huge quantity of timber illegally at her home.

Sahidul Islam's wife Selina Begum, also a former BNP lawmaker from reserved seat in the district during BNP government in 1991-'96, was sued for keeping 226.41square feet of timber worth Tk2.5 lakh at her house without any legal authority.

On a tip-off, a team of joint forces led by Bheramara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) raided the Rathpara house of former BNP lawmaker Sahidul Islam elected from Kushtia-2 constituency in Bheramara at about 2.30:pm and recovered the timber.Osman Gani, officer-in-charge of Social Plantation in Bheramara circle filed a case against Selina Begum with Bheramara police station.

According to police, Sahidul is a listed criminal of Anti Corruption Comission (ACC), He absconded since January 20.

Sources said once a godfather of criminals in the southwestern region fled the country to evade arrest.

Sahidul's name was declared as a graft-suspect in the second list of ACC announced on March.
