Goethe Institut in Dhaka arranged a musical soiree to celebrate the season of monsoon on June 14. Artiste Shama Rahman rendered Tagore songs on rain as well as other tunes. The candlelit event had just the right ambiance for songs of rain. Shama Rahman started the evening with Nilanjana chhaya, followed by the familiar song Aaj ei godhuli laganey. One after another, the artiste rendered songs -- Aaji tomaye abar chai shonabarey, Mon-e ki dwidha rekhey geley choley, Megher porey megh jomechhey, Amar neeshitho raater badalo dhara -- capturing the different emotions evoked by rain. Shama also performed Ami tokhono chhilem magono gohono ghumer ghorey, Duurey kothay duurey duurey, Aaj srabon-er purnimatey and Ami roop-e tomaye bholabo na. The artiste then rendered songs on request from the audience, including Chhaya ghonaechhy bon-e bon-e, Amar din phuralo, Sraboner pabon-e and Krishnokoli ami tarey boli. Skilful renditions of songs by Shama, accompanied by Daulat-ur-Rahman on keyboard, Mohammad Omar on tabla and Pradip Ray on percussion, received rounds of applause from the audience.
