National Children's Theatre Festival '07 begins with fanfare
Participation by 80 theatre troupes


Eighth National Children's Theatre Festival 2007 kicked off on June 15 at Shaokat Osman Memorial Auditorium, Public Library. National Professor Kabir Chowdhury inaugurated the festival. Noted theatre personalities Ramendu Majumdar, president, Bangladesh centre of International Theatre Institute ; M Hamid, president of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation; Golam Kuddus, general secretary of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote; Ali Ahmed, adviser to Peoples Theatre Association and SM Mohsin were the special guests.

After the inauguration a cultural programme was held where member troupes of Peoples Theatre Association performed. Eighty member troupes from all corners of the country are taking part at the festival.

On the first day of the festival Bandhumahal Shilpi Sangastha from Gazipur, Bahurupi Little Theatre from Faridpur, Diamond Club from Jessore, Alpana Shahitya O Sangskritik Sangsad from Thakurgaon, Bidrohi Shishu Theatre from Panchagarh and Nirman Theatre from Dhaka staged their productions.

Liaquat Ali Lucky, convenor of the festival and also secretary general of Peoples Theatre Association, said, "Our ultimate goal is to boost the creative growth of children through a sound practice of theatre."

Everyday some five or six theatres will stage their productions at the festival. The festival will continue till June 29.
