Energy adviser not aware of Falu's statement

Energy and Power Adviser Tapan Chowdhury yesterday said he was not aware of Mossaddak Ali Falu's statement in which the detainee reportedly told the Task Force for Interrogation (TFI) that Tapan bribed him Tk 5 crore for getting a business deal.

"I am not aware of any such statement... I have no comment about it. Why should I give money as I did not get any business from the government," Tapan told reporters when his attention was drawn to Falu's reported confessional statement made to the TFI.

The adviser, however, admitted that his family has partnership in business with the former prime minister Khaleda Zia's political secretary, Falu.

"Yes, my younger brother is a director of Falu's ntv," he said, whose interim caretaker government has rounded up many big shots, including Falu, in the ongoing drive against serious crime and corruption.

He strongly claimed that he had no underhand dealings with Falu.
