Bangladesh and democracy
Asif Rahman, Canada
All the foreign governments and their representatives have been demanding that the CTG hold election as soon as possible and lift the ban on indoor politics. The demands are justified and would have been great if Bangladesh had the educated and respected people in the political arena to take advantage of the changed situation. However, the fact remains that the four major parties in Bangladesh are full of uneducated and corrupt people. These individuals have no love for the country or the people; they only want to exploit the country for their own benefit. Thus I would urge the government to think of a new kind of democracy for Bangladesh. Bangladesh should be run by a supreme council and it should consist of the heads of the armed forces, the elected politicians (prime minister and president), head of central bank, etc. Thus absolute power will not be in the hands of the elected PM and cannot be exploited. Otherwise, we all know that as soon as Khaleda or Hasina comes to power, we will go back to the same old situation and all these corrupt people will have a freehand.
