Schuster pleads for Real deal
Afp, Berlin
Former Real Madrid player Bernd Schuster said Monday he has primed himself to become a possible replacement for Fabio Capello, the current coach of the Spanish giants, as of next season. Schuster, currently the coach of Spanish minnows Getafe, told the German football federation's website: "I'm ready to coach Real Madrid next season. I've prepared myself for it for a long time, and Real are my number one project." Schuster, however, tempered his bid by adding: "I'm not crazy, all I'm saying is that that I'll be ready to coach Real Madrid next season." Real Madrid claimed their 30th Spanish league title on Sunday thanks to a better head-to-head record against their arch-rivals Barcelona, after both sides had finished the respective final league games on equal points. Capello's contract with Real expires in June 2009, however the Italian is reportedly unsettled in the Spanish capital -- where the rumours have also suggested that Schuster is the man to replace him.
