Asif, who was on a long-term training in China, made the trip to Germany in a bid to increase his Maximum Qualifying Score (MQS).

Asif, also an SA Games gold medallist, will have a chance to qualify for the next Olympic Games in Beijing if he avails a MQS of 590, informed Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) chief operating officer M Wali Ullah yesterday.

Meanwhile, national athletes Mahfuzur Rahman Mithu and Sumita Rani Das, who have been receiving higher training in Malaysia from last March, went to Italy to take part in an athletics meet. They will also attend short-term training in Italy.
