Corruption
Ali Khan, London
I am living in the UK for the past 40 years. I don't have any political affiliation with any political parties in Bangladesh, what I have is love for my country and it breaks my heart to see the poverty that still exists there and how people in power are abusing their authority and bleeding the nation of its wealth for their own gains.During the past 25 years, I have been visiting Bangladesh every year. During this period, as a nation we have not learned as much as we should have. Most of what is wrong with our nation is due to corruption. This dirty word runs in the vain of our nation. Throughout the world we are regarded as one of the most corrupt nations! People who are responsible for this plague are those that govern our country, how can any nation or its people stand on their own if those that lead are forgetting the needs of the people. These leaders are more concerned about their own well being and many have plundered the wealth of our nation. We have a system of government that seems to elect members on the basis of their wealth and connection, this is totally improper. Members should be elected on their ability to lead and govern fairly, without prejudice and without self-interest. They should put the interest of their constituency and their nation at the forefront of their daily work. My admiration goes out to the present caretaker government for their bold anti- corruption measures. They should go even further. Corruption is a cancer and it has engulfed our nation, and our people, but now we have been given a chance to remove this cancer and we must encourage the present government to complete their work. In doing so, they should ensure that all future political leaders are clean, if necessary they should vet each and every candidate before they seek election. This is an extremely difficult task, but it's the only way to ensure that those who have been involved in corrupting our system in the past do not reenter the political scene Those who are opposing the CTG are the very people who want to continue the old order. We must not let them come to power again.
