Shanglap Theatre Festival '07 begins

To celebrate its 29th anniversary theatre troupe Shanglap has arranged a four-day theatre festival at the Experimental Theatre Stage. The troupe members brought out a colourful procession on June 18. Chairman, Department of Bangla, University of Dhaka, Professor Abul Quashem Fazlul Haque inaugurated the festival. Jhuna Chowdhury, general secretary of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, was the special guest. The discussion was chaired by founder president of Shanglap, Rafiqul Alam. Besides two productions of Shanglap -- Debotar Grash and Bagdi Dhirual Theatre and the Jahangirnagar University based troupe Jalshiri will stage plays at the festival. Theatre will stage their popular play Meraj Fakirer Ma and Jalshiri will stage the Bertort Brecht's play Three penny Opera. Debotar Grash was staged on the first day of the festival. Majumdar Biplab has dramatised Tagore's Debotar Grash. The play is directed by Mostafa Heera.
