Shops of food, drugs to remain open after 7pm

All small shops mainly selling rice, pulses, vegetables, meat, fish, milk, bread, pastry, sweets and fruits will remain open after 7:00pm, as the shops have been kept out of the purview of the ongoing programme for rational use of electricity in evening peak hours.In a clarification yesterday, the government said the shops selling medicines, medical appliances, bandages, funeral materials, cigarettes, ice, newspapers and hotels, restaurants, movie houses and theatres, petrol pumps and motorcar servicing centres and salons will also remain out of the restriction. The clarification was issued to dispel the confusion that has been created in public mind about the categories of shops that would remain closed after 7:00pm under the rational use of electricity programme. It said the attention of the government has been drawn to news, special reports, articles, editorials and letters published in a section of the print media that small traders are incurring losses or being harassed in the wake of confusion prevailing in public mind about the categories of shops that have been brought under the restriction. With the issuance of this clarification, the government expressed the hope that the confusion about the shops that will remain open after 7:00 in the evening will be removed.
