DU Admission
80 new cases of forgery detected

A Dhaka University (DU) committee on admission forgery has identified 80 new cases of suspected forgery in admission to the political science department of the university.

"The department has sent a list of about 80 students to the committee after it found irregularities in the admission documents," Assistant Proctor Siddiqur Rahman Khan, also a member of the committee, said. He said the committee on admission forgery has begun further scrutiny of the documents of the 80 students.

"The committee will announce the exact number of forgeries at the department after the scrutiny is complete," Siddiqur Rahman said.

"Most of the students who got admitted through forgery are attached to the AF Rahman Hall and the Bangladesh Kuwait Maitri Hall. So, the committee asked for the names of the employees involved in the admission process of six dormitories, including those two," he said.

He said the list was summoned to find out if they were involved in the admission forgery racket.

The university formed the committee on October 10, 2006, with Pro-vice-chancellor AFM Yusuf Haider in the chair after newspapers ran reports of 11 cases of admission by forgery in the public administration department. There were also reports of 168 such cases earlier.

The university after a syndicate meeting on June 5 cancelled the admission of 77 students, forty-four from public administration department, nine from international relations (IR) department, 22 from economics department and two each from political science department and the Institute of Social Welfare.
