Another case filed against ex-minister Shahjahan Omar

A case has been filed against former state minister for law Shahjahan Omar and nine other BNP leaders and cadres by a Jatiya Party (JP) activist on charges of terrorism.This is the second case against Shahjahan Omar. Alamgir Chowdhury, an activist of Rajapur upazila Jatiya Party (Monju), lodged the case with the Upazila magistrate's court at Jhalakati on Wednesday against 10 BNP leaders, court sources said. The other accused include Rajapur upazila BNP secretary Talukder Abul Kalam and Jubo Dal secretary Nasim Akon. In the case, the JP activist alleged that the accused along with their cohorts attacked and injured Mizanur Rahman, a JP activist, on November 21, 2006. They also assaulted and injured several JP leaders and activists, including the complainant, when they went to the hospital to visit Mizan. Accepting the case, Magistrate Farhana Airin ordered the officer in charge of Rajapur Police Station to take legal action against the accused. Earlier, Milon Mahmud Bachchu, former secretary of Rajapur upazila JP, lodged a case against Shajahan Omar, which is under investigation. Filing of the case prompted the associates of Shahjahan Omar to lodge three extortion cases against Bachchu.
