Engr Bayazid sent to jail


Mohammad Bayazid, superintending engineer of roads and highways department who was arrested by joint forces on Wednesday night with bribed money, was produced before a magistrate's court here yesterday.

As no prayer for remand was sought by police, Magistrate Lutfor Rahman of the Cognigance Court-1 sent him to jail hajat.

A case has been lodged with Kotwali Police Station by Sub-Inspector Billal Hossain Shikder under the Anti-Corruption Act.

Local Anti-Corruption Commission will investigate the case.

Bayazid was caught red-handed by joint forces from his office at around 9:45pm with Tk 1 lakh taken as bribe.

Syed Mujibur Rahman, a contractor, gave him the money according to his demand to release his bills worth Tk 88 lakh.

He was handed over to Kotwali police the same night.

Police also recovered Tk 55 thousand in cash, a passport and some papers from his residence.

Bayazid, son of Abed Hossain, hails from Hazipur village in Narshingdi district.
