Political party reforms
Dr. S.M. Rahman, On e-mail
The other day Law and Information Advisor told that the government should not be held responsible if national election is not held in time as per its commitment due to delay in carrying out the reforms in the political parties. It is not understood why the election laws/rules amended by the govt. have to be related to the reforms made by the political parties. For the sake of conducting national elections, the govt. should make rules on its own and at best the Election Commission may discuss the proposed reforms with the constitutional experts and in certain cases with very senior parliamentarians and incorporate their ideas in the proposed reforms. It is up to the political parties to accept or not to accept the EC requirements. We have seen enough of the politicians and their party manifestos, we have also seen the activities of the politicians while they were running the govt. since the liberation of the country. Honesty has been removed or erased by these people from the political dictionary, rather the word corruption has replaced it. So, it is now the turn of the present non- political govt. to do something for the poverty-stricken and exploited people of this country. The government should not wait for the reforms of the political parties, it should complete its task and go for national election as per its road map.
